Valley Line West Light Rail Transit in Edmonton, Alberta.  Subsurface Utilities using OpenRoads Drainage and Utilities on ProjectWise.

Downtown underground utilities.  Multiple eras.  Multiple owners. Manifold sources...  (map link)

You know, the gamut...

The complexity of this project (and subsurface engineering in general) prompted me to record The Six-Ball Juggle.

To simplify the data management, I moved (or linked) facilities information into the model of the facilities, minimizing ELUs (External LookUps).  The essence of BIM and Digital Twins, really.

I made extensive use of ORD BIM capabilities (Item Types), integrating data from disparate sources into each utility's data record.

I then used View Display Rule technology (my favorite new platform tech behind Item Types) to streamline the review process.

Structure Attributes including "Review Me, Boss!" (really) and "Reviewed: OK", "Reviewed: See Notes", and "Review Notes".  Different View Display Rules would highlight or color-code the states of the "To Be Reviewed" utilities.

The takeaway from this is:  the technology is so easy to implement and saves such time that you can recoup the setup time (it's really "as you go") with the project itself.   In-project ROI
