San Diego Data Processing Corporation (SDDPC)

City-owned Software and IT Support Organization

San Diego, CA

July 1998 - June 2000

From March 1995 until July 1998, I consultant continuously to SDDPC as Logjam Solutions, Inc., In July of 1998, I was brought in as a full time employee.

My boss at SDDPC had resigned, and her boss needed "to have the technical expertise 'in-house'".

In additional to my ongoing responsibilities for Engineering Application Support and Services, I inherited the responsibilities for the contract negotiations, executions and reporting for contracts totalling around $350,000 annually.

Major Projects included

  • GIS/InSewer Integration
  • Initial InSewer (Unix) implementation and training (link)
  • InSewer NT implementation and training (link)
  • InRoads Storm&Sanitary implementation and training (link)
  • InRoads Support and Training

As I was completing the training documentation for the new rollout of InRoads Roadway and InRoads Storm&Sanitary, I said to my boss,

"With a slight additional effort, we can generalize the material we author, and we can sell our services to everyone in the country."

"Jeff, our Charter does not permit that."

"Mine kind of demands it. Why help only a few when you can help everybody?"

Leveragers gotta leverage.

I gave notice shortly thereafter, but stayed on for several months until the documentation was complete, the software migration complete and I delivered the "Train the Trainers" class.
